Senator Chris Murphy Speaks On Travel Ban

Immigration Ban: Democratic Senators to Introduce Bills Overturning Trump

Additionally, in an email alert to subscribers, US Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) spoke about the recent travel ban handed down by the President (click here to access Senator Murphy’s website):

Like many of you, I was horrified to read the stories of people being detained and turned around at airports across the country as a result of President Trump’s illegal “Muslim ban.”

My heart broke for the families fleeing violence and terror who were set to arrive in the United States this week only to have those plans dashed by an unconscionable abandonment of our founding principles.

But then I saw the crowds begin to gather at JFK Airport in New York City. And Logan in Boston. O’Hare in Chicago. Bradley in Hartford, Connecticut. LAX, IAD, ATL, PHX SFO, and many others. I was inspired by photos on Twitter of lawyers volunteering their time in airport restaurants. And then we won legal battles in New York, Boston, and Virginia. And in some places, people who had been held up were let through customs.

And the response this weekend made one thing clear to me: there is no anger or anxiety that you feel that cannot be cured by political action. This week, I am going to do my part to act as well.

This week, I am going to introduce legislation to immediately overturn Donald Trump’s dangerous and hateful executive order. I want you to add your name as a citizen co-sponsor and then forward this email to your friends and ask them to do the same.

Add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of my legislation overturning Donald Trump’s illegal Muslim ban that flies in the face of America’s founding principles.

As I said in my Huffington Post piece earlier this week, we are a nation founded by religious refugees. Over and over we have opened our doors to those fleeing war and terror. We have it within our power to protect ourselves from terror and to rescue our neighbors from terror.

And we must do both.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy

Senator Chris Murphy speaks with Connecticut residents about the Affordable Care Act

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — As Republicans threaten to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Senator Chris Murphy stopped in New Haven Wednesday to talk with people about the law. He heard from people who have benefited from it….

The fear is that if the law is repealed, young adults will not be able to stay on their parents’ plans. There is also a concern that women may be charged more for their plans than men. Many with preexisting conditions are worried too….Murphy has been speaking out about the need to protect and defend the Affordable Care Act. He believes repealing it would be disastrous. He says though it has been good for millions of people, it isn’t perfect.

“We should be working on fixing it, making it better – not repealing it and going back to the time when there were 20 million people without insurance in this country,” Murphy said.

A “Weekend of Action” for the Milford Democrats

elections_politicsAn update from the campaign trail:

This Saturday and Sunday (July 19th and 20th) will be a “Weekend of Action” for Milford and other local democrats as they convene to canvass and phone bank across Milford to drum up voters this campaign season.

There will be a special guest attending the event here in Milford and that will be US Senator Chris Murphy, who’ll be greeting and interacting with the volunteers who attend the “Weekend of Action” on Saturday.

  • Where: 75 New Haven Avenue, Milford CT (next to the Milford Library and across the Fire Station). There are parking spaces behind the library to park.
  • What: On July 19th and 20th local democrats will be out walking and phone banking to reach out to voters.
  • What time to be there: Canvassing and phone banking shifts start from 12-2pm and 2-4pm on BOTH days.
  • Who: Volunteers will be canvassing and phone-banking for our Gubernatorial and other State candidates who are running for re-election this year.
  • What to bring: Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes or bring an extra pair of shoes to leave at the office when you come back from walking. Bring an extra pen or pencil and if you have a smartphone do bring it to the event. Canvassers, if they are interested, can utilize the VoteBuilder app (known as the CT MiniVAN) and when they go out to canvass they can look at canvass areas and mark voters from the comfort of their phone. If you only have a regular cell flip-phone or no mobile device do not worry; there will be paper copies of the canvass areas to bring out to walk and mark voters by regular pen or pencil.
  • What to expect: For first-time volunteers do not worry; there will be plenty of people there to assist and help you carry out your first canvass/phone bank event. For seasoned volunteers expect to team up in pairs of two and if you have a smartphone you will have the chance to use the VoteBuilder app when walking. If you are used to using regular, paper walk sheets those will be available to take as well.

In the event you can not attend this canvassing event that is not a problem. On Mondays and Wednesdays there are phone banking events taking place at 75 New Haven Avenue here in Milford from 6-8pm. There are also regular canvassing parties that take place at the same location from 12-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
