CTPost.com reports that Congresswoman DeLauro met with twenty-three mayors and first selectmen from nearly every community in the 3rd Congressional District to discuss the automatic federal budget cuts that are taking effect.

“This is something that will happen gradually, but with a profound effect,” DeLauro said. “For example, $2.5 billion will be cut from the Hurricane Sandy disaster relief — that means cuts to direct assistance, Army Corps of Engineer cuts, transportation cuts — all of which will affect the ability of our cities and towns to repair their communities and to make them whole again.”

She said the so-called sequestration cuts will hurt a broad spectrum of people, from special education teachers to air travelers to those who need help paying their heating oil bills.
