Blake, who had been the council’s secretary for the past year, succeeds North Haven First Selectman Michael Freda, who served for the past year.
Freda passed the gavel to Blake in a ceremony at the council’s regular monthly meeting on January 27th, 2016.
“Like Mike has done, I’ll try to make sure that these meetings are efficient as possible,” Mayor Blake said. “I appreciate the support of the 14 other towns and I look forward to being productive” and showing the leadership to “bring new businesses and new corporations into South Central Connecticut.”
In the article, published by the New Haven Register, it is noted that the South Central Regional Council of Governments includes the chief executives of 15 Greater New Haven cities and towns. They include New Haven, West Haven, Hamden, East Haven, North Haven, Milford, Meriden, Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison, Wallingford, Orange, Woodbridge and Bethany.
The SCRCOG region covers over 570,000 people (1/6th of the state’s population!). The council provides provides a platform for intermunicipal coordination, cooperation, and decision making.
Congratulations to our very own Mayor, Ben Blake, on this new responsibility as Chair of the South Central Regional Council of Governments!
