Gas prices continue to climb beyond the average person's reach. The prices of basic necessities like food and electricity are forcing people to make choices. With news of the national and state economies becoming more onerous each day, it was gratifying to witness Milford's Board of Aldermen handle the budget process with intelligence and compassion.

They showed compassion for our seniors and school age children. They displayed intelligence by seeking bare bones budgets from department heads while being careful not to slash so deeply as to gut departments and end services.
A friend told me he once heard Mayor Richetelli say that in Milford we argue, sometimes yell, and then we come together, make a decision and make it work. This is what has happened this budget year.
At least one portion of our pocketbooks has been spared. Thank you to Chairman Ben Blake and all the elected officials who make up the Aldermanic Board. Milford has been well-served.
