Slossberg Kicks Off Holiday Gift Drive for Veterans

Target jump-starts drive with donation.

Senator Slossberg is joined by Target Store Manager Richard Astin, Westfield Connecticut Post mall General Manager Bryan Gaus, and veterans Russ Stilwell and Russ Edwards for the kick-off of her 2007 Veterans Holiday Gift Drive. Target donated $500 in goods to jump-start the drive, which will provide holiday gifts to residents of the State Veterans’ Home in Rocky Hill.

(December 4, 2007)
Joined by area veterans and representatives from Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, state Senator Gayle Slossberg (D-Milford), vice chair of the Connecticut General Assembly's Select Committee on Veterans' Affairs, kicked off a district-wide campaign to collect holiday gifts for the state's veterans.

To jump-start the drive, Target has agreed to donate $500 worth of goods to the gift drive, and the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall will host one of four collection drop-off points around the 14th Senate District, which includes Milford, Orange and West Haven. All items collected will be given as holiday gifts to residents at the State Veterans' Home in Rocky Hill.

"Our veterans give so much to each and every one of us through their selfless and dedicated service that it's only fitting that we take the time this holiday season to give back," said Senator Slossberg. "Thanks are in order to Target for its very generous donation and to the Post Mall for partnering in this effort. Together, we can bring some cheer home to our veterans."

"We're pleased to join Senator Slossberg in her efforts to make the holidays a little brighter for Connecticut's veterans," said Westfield Connecticut Post Mall General Manager Bryan Gaus. "We hope that everyone will join in to help make this gift drive a great success."

The holiday drive will work in conjunction with the state Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) annual 'Secret Santa' program. Items can be brought to one of four drop-off points across the district, located at:

  • Parson's Government Center, 70 West Road, Milford
  • Orange Town Hall, 617 Orange Center Road, Orange
  • West Haven City Hall, 355 Main Street, West Haven
  • Westfield ConnecticutPost Mall, Concierge Booth, 1201 Boston Post Road, Milford

Honoring Veterans

I find it amazing you do this and yet the Dems won't even march in the Memorial Day parade to HONOR our fallen men and women.  Just amazing.
