Every year the non-profits, "crafters", churches, community centers, and people of Milford pull off the most amazing FREE event in the State of Connecticut: The Milford Oyster Fest. Nearly 200 people volunteer throughout the year to present the annual festival, which extends from the center of town through the marina and harbor and all the way to the ballparks beyond the library.

This year's Oyster Fest was preceded by a highly successful new activity, the night of pearls before the Oyster Fest, designed and conducted by the Downtown shops and business owners as spearheaded by our own Susan Shaw, candidate for Planning and Zoning in the 4th District and current President of the Downtown Milford Business Association.

The following day, Saturday August 18th, we started at 7 am to chop slice and dice the onions, tomatoes and peppers that would be enhancing Nick Kefalas' famous Gyros, while hundreds of people begged fried clams (hence the need for Tartar Sauce a la Rich), cold beer and Rich Carey's legendary fried dough.

It was much too intense to take pictures that day, and we weren't able to hear The Smithereens over the demands for corn on the cob and a New Mayor. So here are the snaphots from up on the Green, at the Democratic Party souvenir booth.

Up on the Green, Representative Richard Roy was Representing the Environmental Concerns Coalition.

A great day and the whole town sparkled again on Sunday morning, even though over 50,000 people came through for the festivities.
