Add new commentFollow the MoneySo, what's up with the Oyster Festival this year?
In a major change this year, the Oyster Festival Committee (OFC) has decided to become the sole beer vendor (aka monopoly) for the 2010 Oyster Festival. This means that not only will festival goers only have one booth from which they can purchase beer, the rest of the vendors lose out on any profit from selling beer. Why? We're not sure. For the non-profit civic organizations that participate as vendors in the food court, the annual Oyster Festival has traditionally been their biggest fundraiser, primarily from the profits of beer sales. Taking away that source of funding is not only uncivic-minded, it completely negates the true meaning of community. Has the Oyster Festival Committee decided to become a profit-making organization? If not, what is the Committee's purpose, and how will it use the proceeds? Will the Oyster Festival Committee share its financial statement with the public? More to come... Reply |
